Oceania

I have been obsessed with this song lately. I thought I’d share…even though it is not a new Björk song or anything. Oceania is off her Medúlla album, released in 2004. The lyrics speak of an ocean reflecting on the evolution of humans. I love the vocals on this song, as well as most of the Medúlla album (being that they are focused on being vocally driven). Both a London choir and Leeds-based beatboxer Shlomo contributed to the song making it sound incredibly intoxicating. It’s a shame that Oceania lost out to Norah Jones’ Sunrise for the Grammy in 2005. And as for the video…I love the crystals on Björk’s face and the way she moves so awkwardly. But I guess she’s always been good at that. So yes, this may be a blast from the past, but it’s enjoyable none the less!
