John Galliano kicked off the Resort 2009 runway shows last night at Guastivino’s in New York City. Master of flamboyance, Galliano engaged his audience with a collection of 60’s vixens who seemed to be heading to Hollywood Hills. In fact, the runway was designed to resemble a swimming pool! Amid a palate of bright pinks, greens, blues and a more subtle orange and tope, Galliano encompassed both a luxurious extravagant tone mixed with a commercially appealing feel.
Resort wear is now becoming less of an idea meant only for the affluent. Designers are beginning to target other markets in this once exclusive category. Galliano’s collection was fun, flirty, and refreshing. A great way to begin the resort wear shows. Next up: Chanel’s show this Thursday in Miami!
